I have a 2011 Fiesta SE. I recently tried to pop the hood to do a few maintenance checks, ie. oil, coolant, etc. However, when I tried to pull the lever there was no tension and the hood wouldn't pop. I checked the cable and it goes slack and does not retract. I tried to find a way to pop the hood from the outside but can't seem to do so. There is a lot of plastic shrouds or molding preventing me from accessing the latch with a screwdriver or any other object. I also tried looking from underneath but had the same issue with the plastic shrouds. I have an appointment set with the shop in about a week and a half from now. But I'd like to get this fixed without having to pay shop prices. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think you will have to remove the lower valance panel. It's held in place by push pins. Most people would probably describe it as a "filler panel" between the radiator core support and the lower front edge of the bumper cover.
I have my Fiesta on a hoist for maintenance now. I will look at it to see what it will take to get access to the hood latch. I have never seen or experienced that problem with the Fiesta, yet. That's an interesting question!

This filler panel. The the air dam might have to be pulled off first. I had the bumper cover assembly removed many years ago and cannot remember the procedure. But removing the panel will give you the easiest path to reach up and snag the release lever. IMG_20200808_110251.jpg
