Is the MK7 1.6TDi Fiesta a good car to buy now?

Hello, I'm looking to get my first car soon. After looking at a bunch of them I got my eyes on the aforementioned model in either the zetec s or titanium option. I will use it for college commute (about 120km/day) so that's why I want to go with the diesel. I couldn't find much information when it comes to maintenance and costs hence my question. How much should I be expected to put into a car that I buy for around 4000 euro in Ireland that has 100,000-120,000 miles? I know that there's a lot of those cars around which makes me think that parts must be cheap but I have no idea. Also what can I be expecting to having to spend on it in the future if I'm planning to use it for at least 3-4 years? Thanks

We didn't get the diesels here in the Americas, so no experience with that. I do know that there are lots of Fiestas running around with high miles, so they tend to be reliable. They're also pretty easy to work on compared to a lot of cars, and parts are cheap and plentiful.

I'm sure there are other forums in the UK and Europe where you can learn about the diesel engines. From what I've read, some have had problems with fuel injectors wearing out. The thing is, they're diesels. Diesel fuel is abrasive, and all diesel injectors eventually need to be replaced because of that unavoidable fact.

Maybe you should also look at the 1.0 gas (petrol!) engine. They get great mileage, too.
